this image looks a lot like the part in the film where Braddock is able to duck before getting the deadly punch from Baer. this image shows, in my opinion to never give up and always keep going. and thats exactly what Braddock did. He knew what he had to do to win this fight and he knew it at this very moment.

Cinderella Man

An old fighter with great ambition to keep his family from sinking any further into the Great Depression. James Braddock has a wife and three kids who love him to pieces, but the depression hit hard, and moving from a big beautiful home to an apartment with no heater during the winter can be tough. During a fight that he was set up in, he broke his hand, unable to put on a show, and because of this he was not allowed to box professionally any longer. and with a broken hand its not easy to get any kind of work. From praying for shifts to supply some sort of payments for his family, to signing up for food stamps and begging old friends for money--times are tough for Braddock. but when his old friend Joe Gould and boxing coach gives Braddock one more shot at boxing, he takes it. the only difference is when Jimmy was boxing, he was in the light weight category, but his opponent was a heavy weight boxer--a much larger guy than his usual fights. but his experience and ambition helped him win the fight and become a richer man for a little while. Because of the show Braddock put on, Joe got him another fight. and this time it was with the heavy-weight champion, who has been known for killing his opponents in the ring. Mae (Braddock's wife) was completely against him training again and fighting with this gorilla. when the fight finally came, all became quite. not a sound but the announcers whispering for the radio. but then a cheer roared at Braddock like a proud lion. James Braddock was announced to be the new heavy-weight champion on the radio later that night.

Sugar-Coating

textbooks have been sugar-coated ever since a can remember. this year i have been able to come to the conclusions on certain topics. especially the topics astounding events in history. the rape of nanking had only been mentioned once in my history, which was last year, and it was described as a "tragic event". thats it.. their was no explanation for it at all. before this year i was made to believe that Christopher Columbus was a great explorer with ambition who sailed the world and found america. BAAAAAALLLLLLOOONNEEEEY!!!! being fed the fabricated history and finding out the truth later makes you feel like a moron. like you need to relearn history; and thats exactly what happens in school. every year they change what you think you've already learned. Maybe its because of the Maturity issue, but in my opinion, if we are going to lie about history, we might as well not teach history at all. because all it becomes is a cut up story.

Countries in the world such as Rwanda or Bosnia have been suffering with genocide for a long time. its been going on for 20 years. taking children when they are young and turning them into weapons without a heart. giving no mercy. i saw a documentary on the discovery channel talking about the world of violence and genocide in Rwanda and it left me speechless. the descriptions given from survivors from the look in these soldiers eyes was "robotic" as they had said. as if the they themselves were made of steal and had lost their ability to feel. they had become immuned to death and seeing death. it became an everyday sight. just as regular as seeing the moon at night. and it was expected to see dead bodies lying in streets. but the worst of it is more countries are ending up this way. the only way to prevent this is to get involved. is to at least try without pushing this issue too hard. because as many victims as their are, there are almost just as much enemies.

Sacco & Vanzetti

The trial is understandable because I am sure that the Americans had a fairly difficult time trusting any Italians. even though Sacco and Vanzetti were innocent, being in that judgmental time period, it was simply how people thought. no one was very accepting. The case started in Braintree with two Italian gunmen that jumped into a get-away car. Unfortunately Sacco and Vanzetti were Italian and the both had guns with them during the wrong place and wrong time. so the coppers took them in. they also made another mistake by lying when they were being questioned. and that was all it took in order for people to start making assumptions. when the police started digging deeper into their histories, they found out that Vanzetti had committed a previous robbery in Bridgewater. this obviously didn't help prove his innocence. when his day in court finally case around, he never showed up. it seemed like he was digging himself in a hole by in a way framing himself for a crime he never committed. Eye witnesses are unable able to place Sacco or Vanzetti in the crime scene and could not identify them until seeing them during their arrest. this is a major issue because its fairly difficult to commit a crime that you haven not attended to. Second, the gun shells do not match from the ones of Vanzetti's gun. this evidence should also be taken out of the case considering the tempered evidence by switching gun barrels in van's gun. there is no way that Sacco and Vanzetti committed these crimes. Vanzetti even admits that reason why lied is to prevent getting deported back to Italy because of his acquaintance with other radicals. this man is guilty, but he is not guilty of this crime. The two pieces of evidence that are against them cannot hold up in court because none of it holds reliability and a positive conclusion that the pair of gentleman on trial are guilty. the witnesses cannot place them in the crime scene and Vanzetti's gun was not fired during it. Neither of these men should be held in contempt for this crime for one more day.

The Gangsters

All of the gangsters i learned about had different different traits to make them stand out from other man of organized crime. the gangster my group had study was George Kelly; also known as Machine Gun Kelly, which was very ironic because a big reason why he was so famous is probably the only gangster to be know for not killing anyone in his crimes. he grew up with a rich family in tennessee. by the time he turned eighteen, he was married. he had two sons and committed his first serious crime of kidnapping in 1933. when he was arrested, in jail he became pen pals with the victim of his ransom crime. he died on his birthday turning at the age of 59. the most out of place character for a gangster if u ask me.

Science v. Religion

there has always been a dispute about the teachings of creationism and evolutionism and which is more appropriate to be taught in school. whats so uncanny is now there is an issue teaching creationism do to other students' beliefs, and can be offensive to them. i do not agree to teach creationism because of this fact and many others. including the issue that there is no proof to evolutionism, but at least creationism is supplied with a backed up theory. i am not a religious person so it is not easy for me to sit through a discussion on how "God" created the earth and everything in it. this is no disrespect to those who believe in the theory, however i am not too fond of those who attempt to convince those who do not, since it is their choice of what to believe. because creationism is based off theory of science, it is allowed to be taught in SCIENCE class. Because there is normally not a class for religion in public schools, it shouldn't be taught in PUBLIC schools.
