Improvement After Reconstruction

The people who had to endure slavery seemed to benefit after the reconstruction. although they became fiercely indebted to the landowners, they were able to crop their own land, and become more independent for their families. their was no abuse, but I'm sure their was issues when it came to croppers who could not pay for their rented tools. there was not too much to gain for their lives, but at least the former slaves were able to get something out of the new acts against slavery.

Amnesty

To live in the south during the civil war and told to be granted amnesty is like excused bad behavior, making confederates feel like their beliefs were wrong, which is not fair. Like if someone was granted amnesty for believing that Jesus was not the son of god, they may become offended from forgiveness of their own beliefs. That was the same way the southerners felt. The south had no reason to be granted amnesty because they had nothing to apologize for, in their eyes. I would have been outraged from a notice such as that. The north did not believe what the south may have lived by, so they thought to do the 'kind' gesture of excusing bad behavior?? In the defense of the south, they should not have to excuse their own beliefs.

Saving the Union

the union was bound to be more important to lincoln because slavery was an everyday issue back in the day, but losing half of the country was something that was not worth it. Slavery, although was not completely changed, was able to be put to a stop for future comings of it, which the south did not take lightly. this is when the black codes came into action for unsettled confederates. So, in complete honesty, it seems like Abe was not that big of a hero. he did what he thought was right for his country, and in a presidential position, no decision is an easy one to make; especially one that determines that mammoth of change for the country.

the interesting thing is how many of them switched their decision to actually fighting in the war. his speech was very moving, so I guess for some people you can change beliefs. But the Confederate states seemed to be A LOT more extreme than the Union. their opinion on slavery was ridiculously eminent. a speech could not change their mind, and a war would be the only way to settle the dispute, even though i believe war should never even be mentioned, i guess thats just the american way.

"History is the lie commonly agreed upon." It kinda makes me laugh how accurate this statement is. I mean, so many people have been taught to believe something that may or may not be completely true. Comin into Meechin's class for the first time was awesome because kids were assigned to put the statements in front of them in the false or true statement piles. almost every one of the slips we had that were false were put in the true pile. it goes to show that many of us believe in 'false history'. The statement is basically saying that almost all history is twisted and edited to try and make a better story. It can be summed up by saying, "the history written down is bull ****, but we're all gonna believe it anyways."

Lies on History

history that has been changed to prevent upsetting youngsters is honestly, in my opinion, not the best way to go. the fact that this is what the children are taught when it is NOT true is not fair. i think kids should have the right to know the true facts. they need to understand what really happened. the fact that parents and teachers are lying to protect their kids is not helping them any since they are all bound to find out the truth eventually. i have learned in the past couple weeks how much history has really been lied about. this not only pissed me off towards those teachers, but also made me wonder what else has been lied about; what else is there that we can not trust? i only know that if i ever do have kids of my own, i will be completely frank about what they ask about, because the last thing i would want is for my kids to be ignorant about history they are suppose to be learning in school!
