Work for the American Dream
recently Meechin showed a clip called class divided that showed a lot of psychology involved with how well one may achieve as long as they feel superior. in the clip there was a scene where the children had done card times tables being timed on how fast they can get through the whole pack. with the collar on, the children performed much slower because that was a symbol of them being lower than the other children. this can be applied with even further discrimination and permanent collars on people who don't have the same chance as others because of the prejudiced and racist people will put others down for being different from themselves. its something that can be changed but the only way to do that is by changing our generation of people who think this way. the american dream is very possible but opportunities and chances change with those who have bigger disadvantages with others. and people who acquire an 'unearned skin privilege' will never realize how much harder it is to carry discrimination on their backs.

I am... Poem
I am a member of the MLK Movement
I wonder when the movement will make an impact
I hear racial slurs passing in the streets
I see violence acted upon the innocent
I am a member of the MLK Movement
I pretend that the aggression can be changed
I feel ketchup dumped on me at the lunch counter
I need a napkin to wipe it off
I worry how many will die for this cause
I cry for those in need
I am a member of the MLK Movement
I understand the consequences for civilized disobedience
I believe in what I am apart of
I dream of change
I try to help make that change
I hope colors wont matter anymore
I am a member of the MLK Movement
I wonder when the movement will make an impact
I hear racial slurs passing in the streets

MLK vs. Malcom X
MLK seems to have had a different way of making change by using the strategy of civil disobedience, which was something that Malcolm X definitely did not practice. he was a man to say, 'whatever it takes.' and he did. he provoked many people by doing what they could to get their point across. MLK used love to get through to people. because you cant fight love when its thrown around you like a boa constrictor. like every adorable puppy is licking your face. maybe too much, but u get the gist of it. malcolm X portrayed more of an 'aggressive' tactic. he used violence, when necessary, in order to get the point across to the nation simply saying "I'm not puttin up with this bull s*** anymore!" but when Malcolm came back on a trip, he changed his idea of how he will make a statement to this world, and that was following the way MLK decided to go about the civilized disobedience or fighting with love. both had different ideas but ended up finding out which was the right one.

Sexism
Going through the adds i found something very interesting under groceries for types of posters. an ad for Swanson dinner trays, a women holding a bag of groceries in the left hand corner at the top of the poster. obviously this is something directed towards women since the woman is holding the grocery bag. Also when i was looking through the ads for groceries, you see women's hands modeling for the foods. they kind of make it obvious on where the women stand and where the men stand. in the section of posters for military and work, all of them are directed for men. the completely separate the men and women duties. obviously nobody found this sexist at all. they didn't think twice about it a bet. but to see how far we have come in creating equality in todays society really shows the kind of progress we have accomplished.

Norman Rockwell Painting
their are three men sitting at a bar with a bar tender standing behind the bar. It looks as if they all know each other and are regular costumers. Two of the men at the bar are wearing caps, like a postal worker or a milk man. these men are lively and jokers, which doesn't amuse the man tending the bar. but they seem to get a laugh once in a while. none of of them have money for the restaurants best pie around, so they ask the man tending bar if they could get some free pie, he is giving them a look saying, "come on now." I am sure that the men do this quite often. but because they are the ones working for their community, he gives in and gives them that delicious pie with a cup of coffee.
